1870

Edwin John Churchill apprenticed to Wm. Jeffrey & Son, Dorchester.

1877

"Ted" Churchill worked for and later managed the company of Frederick T. Baker, gunmakers of Fleet Street and Cockspur Street, London S.W. He could "lock, stock and barrel" a gun and was a champion pigeon shot.

1891

The company of E.J. Churchill was founded at 8 Agar Street, Strand, London W.C.2. "Ted" Churchill was the only really practical gunmaker in the gunfitting and coaching line. He gave "Instruction in Shooting" at his private Shooting Grounds at Eltham.

1900

Robert Churchill "nephew" joined the firm.

1905-1931

E.J. Churchill appointed gunmakers to H.M. King Alfonso XIII of Spain.

1910

Edwin John Churchill died. Robert Churchill started using a 25" barrelled gun exclusively for Game and Pigeon Shooting.

1912

Jim Chewter, relation, joined the firm and became General Manager.

1917

E.J. Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited incorporated. Bob Churchill was now a world-famous game and pigeon shot.

1920

With the production of the "XXV" came the "Churchill rib".

1925

E.J. Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited moved to 39 - 42 Leicester Square, London, W.C.2.

1929

The comany moved to 32 Orange Street, London, W.C.2. and opened its private Shooting School at Crayford, Kent. Bob Churchill was now an eminent forensic ballistics expert.

1930

In collaboration with Arnold Louis Chevallier, Robert Churchill designed a side lever over and under gun with strikers parallel to the bore. Never commercially produced.

1933-1936

Churchills appointed gunmakers to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales.

1940

Churchill instructed Home Guard recruits in the art of Shooting.

1946

"Bob" was honoured with the O.B.E.

1952

Robert Churchill worked with Abbas Bey (a member of the Egyptian Royal Family), Alan A.V. Judge, William Carver and Jesse Hill to produce a new over and under shotgun eventually named the "Zenith".

1955

Churchill published his definitive work on shooting entitled "Game Shooting".

1958

After a protracted illness Robert Churchill died.

1959

Company name changed to Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited.

1962

John Chewter died, suddenly. Don Masters became General Manager. S. Wright & Sons, Birmingham acquired by Churchills.

1964

Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited became associated with Atkin, Grant & Lang Limited. Churchill (Gunworks) Limited was established at Cannon Works, Bollo Lane, Acton, W.3.

1969

Don Masters became the Works Manager in London and Birmingham.

1971

All companies amalgamated under the title of Churchill, Atkin, Grant & Lang Limited

1976

Churchill, Atkin, Grant & Lang Limited moved to Pall Mall, London, S.W.1

1977

The London and Birmingham factories were taken over by the Management and Staff and became Churchill (Gunworks) Limited.

1980

Churchill, Atkin, Grant & Lang Limited ceased active trading.

1981

Churchill (Gunworks) Limited ceased trading.

1983

E.J. Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited re-formed.

1996

West Wycombe Shooting Ground Limited acquired the rights to use the Churchill Gunmakers name. Formal links agreed between E.J. Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited and Churchill Gunmakers.

1997

Production of the new Premiere side-by-sides started.

1998

Introduction of a brand new sidelock over and under.

2003

E.J. Churchill purchased the trading name, intellectual property rights, good will and gun records of Churchill (Gunmakers) Limited thereby reuniting The House of Churchill.

Sister companies brought together under The E.J. Churchill Group Ltd

2004

Production of the new Imperial started
